The purpose of the Rule, like any other Rule, is to tell you how to play the game. It's good to know how to play the game, because then you can have a way to determine if everyone is playing the same game.But there's still the Philosophy. If you don't like the Rule, do something else. Put your Trade Route tokens on the Trade Route pile, if there is one. Put them in a Petri dish. Balance them on your head so that you need a mirror to help you count them. Do what you want. We won't stop you. Well, don't do anything stupid or dangerous. I mean, Darwin is our friend and all, but if something bad happened after you did something stupid or dangerous you might sue me and I wouldn't enjoy that at all. So don't do anything stupid or dangerous. But anything else, feel free.
