honestly, you recommended this or brass?
Hi Jay,
I’ve never played Brass, but I’m a big fan of AoI, so I’m not objective in my answer. However, I’m sure both games are excellent, it depends on what you’re looking for. I know many Brass’ fan don’t like AoI because they don’t feel the game is as tight as Brass. I can’t comment on that since I’ve never tried Brass.
Personnaly, I chose AoI because I wanted to play with 5 players (we’re 5 in my regular group) and because of the “easier” rules. What I didn’t know at that time, is that AoI is more flexible than Brass to expand, so now it is possible to play AoI on different maps which offer different gameplay experiences. I like to have that possibility. Actually, AoI is one of my favorite game!
You can look on this Forum and on Brass', you will find many threads comparing Brass and AoI in details. However, I feel that the learning curve is smoother with AoI than Brass (just my perception).
For a 2 player game, I wouldn’t recommand Germany either because the map is too loose (but not a bad map to learn the game). Other maps are tighter, but still loose for some elements (ports for example). I think removing 2 cards of each industry/color + 1 ship is fine.
Finally, thanks to you guys for advertising the Great Lakes map again!! :p
