Since you seem to be offering to discuss this...

I work on desktop GPU-based graphics full-time, and many of the same principles apply to mobile (presumably OpenGL ES here). You should certainly be able to load and display the current Phantom Leader playing field and counters all at once on iPad 1. You may not be able to load all of the game's graphics at once, and not at Retina resolution (not needed for iPad 1), but certainly what is shown at any given time.

Even without technical background, one could point to any number of 2D games that use full-screen non-tiling graphics and work fine on iPad 1, e.g. Ticket to Ride.

Of course, feel free to ignore me if you already know this.
